The floorboards muttered hoarsely beneath me, and I sat up with a sharp inhale of freezing air. The empty room that welcomed me was dull and grey, the walls cracked and the roof full of craters that shafted in a dusty breeze. I surveyed the area in silence, my fingers twitching over the steak knife that slept under my sheet. The house moaned, and it settled with another great sigh of rotting wood and nails.
I stood cautiously from the thin sheet that I had spread on the floor the previous night and I stretched. My bones cracked like fire kindling, long used to the hardness of ground instead of a bed. Out a gaping hole in the wall, the sun pe
I slammed the door open and the tawny morning air flooded our cramped kitchen. I snatched my satchel from the floor and completely ignored my brothers’ cries of protest. I tore down the steps of our porch, and I flew across the dirt street. My feet pounded the earth, and I felt the chilly wind of the new day blow straight through my coat. As I sprinted, my mind became a blur of thoughts, so much in fact that I rammed straight into someone who had been patrolling the road. We both fell in a cloud of dust, and I pulled back, shaking my head violently.
“Oh, forgive me, I wasn’t watching where I was go- ”
My throat caught
I arrived back at my house late that night, my heavy footfalls causing the square porch to creak. I had spent almost the whole day speaking with Jasper. I sat down on my side of the fence, squashing the grasses into a comfortable mat for my leisure, and I began to unload every question I had about the land beyond my metal cage.
Jasper listened intently, his frequent coughing fits not assuaging his passion to speak with a human voice. He told me that the surrounding towns had fallen to complete ruin: houses burnt, rivers drained, and every sign of life killed. He had named the time that he had been alone the Dark Days and that these hallowed
Jasper let out a shaky sigh, and he rubbed his face to keep from crying. "There...There was blood everywhere. On the walls. In the kitchen sink. Spilled out on the floor, even. The house was ruined, ripped apart and gaping holes in the walls. My brothers and I decided that we couldn't stay there with the Hallows so close and with no protection anymore, so we took the underground tunnel to the clearing. We ran through the woods for an entire week, hiding in an old cave by a little stream."
“Where are your brothers?" I asked, my eyes still clenched shut, scared to open them in case I was just dreaming it all.
Jasper settled against the f
"I think that there is no easier way to say this, than to say it exactly like it is," Eddie said softly.
Around us, the snow whirled in flurries, and the frigid breeze was both ferocious and calm; a silent cat ready to pounce on its prey. I felt the hair stand up on the back of my neck, and I shivered. I realized a moment later that it was not from the cold, but from the sheer forwardness in Eddie's voice.
It was like speaking to a new person, not the shy and demure Eddie that I had been with only moments ago.
I clenched my fists inside my thin, woolen mittens.
"And what exactly are you trying to say?" I replied, snow tickling my dark ey
Wake up to a frosty sill,
Blankets spread, what a chill!
Scurry towards the window seat,
Around your shoulders, you wrap a sheet.
Outside the world is bathed in white,
Glowing brightly, sweet sunlight!
You take a sweater off the floor,
Put it on, race to the door.
Down the stairs you run so fast,
Your siblings calling, "Don't be last!"
Pancakes, syrup, white whipped cream,
Breakfast seeming from a dream.
After tummies are so full,
On goes a jacket with a pull.
Then two mittens, a scarf, a hat,
Two thick boots wait on the mat.
Out the door, smiles wide,
The world is happy to oblige!
Leaping, trampling through the snow,
Oh, the places
My fingers grazed the metal of the fence, knowing that the electricity would be off. The cold chain link sent shivers down my spine.
A voice in my head echoed through me.
This horror is my salvation.
I turned from the fence, bending, and my fingers met the refreshing dirt below my feet. The grasses tickled my cheeks and got in my hair, but I didn't mind.
I began to dig.
~~
The sun was high above me when I stopped digging. I straightened up, stretching my cramped back. The mist had gone, being replaced with grey clouds. The air remained chilly, warning that autumn was going to be rainy and cold this year.
In my pouch were 6 onions, 2 tur
It all started with the fence.
Chain link; 20 feet tall. Electrified well, it's supposed to be. But we have such little power in here, it only comes on at night. You can't go over it. If you try to dig under it, you'll be killed by special capsules of deadly gases that are hidden everywhere in the dirt below it.
It's much like a giant dog cage, the way it's laid out in an intricate cube shape. 7 miles long, and 9 miles wide. Holding in all of us. All 128 of us.
There would be more. But not many survived the sweep. The good thing is, we have many full families here; so not many people are lonesome. But there are the few who have lost
A tiny fleck of light danced with the stars.
As her light feet dashed around the evening sky in her never-ending waltz, she whispered to the daughters and sons of the moon.
She told them secrets, secrets that had been taken and carried throughout the very reaches of time and past the borders of the very universe itself.
Secrets interest the stars. To them, they are the bits and scraps of human desires that have been sewn into one another. A patchwork quilt of emotion from the living race.
She knew this, as she danced with the children of the sky. She knew that secrets could be traded to the stars for guidance, if they please them.

Hi guys.
I havent been on since June, and I regret that because I have a lot of new writings. However, I wont be posting them. This summer has been a wonderful thing for me and my mind. I found my muse, if you want to get technical, and I've decided to take a leave of absence to pursue it.
I've started on writing my own novel, and I really want to focus on it for now. "The Summer I Grew Wings"...I want it to be monumentous!
I've stopped writing my LoZ fanfics. I still LOVE Legend of Zelda, no doubt about that, but there's not a lot I can write about without it being corny or disgusting. So I'm writing my own line of work.
